Bernmobil - Revolutionization for the management of the route network

Puzzle ITC has developed the occupancy tool Naviinfra for BERNMOBIL. The tool enables the effective planning and execution of occupancies for streetcars, trolleybuses and charging stations. It is used to coordinate different events such as driving school, measurement or test runs, winter service, construction projects, maintenance work and crane operations in the vicinity of infrastructure components such as tracks, overhead lines or charging columns.

By automating processes and providing comprehensive overview functions, Naviinfra makes a significant contribution to increasing efficiency and safety in construction site and event management.

Challenge

In view of the increasing complexity of construction site and event planning, BERNMOBIL decided to develop the Naviinfra occupancy tool together with Puzzle ITC. This tool not only offers functions for planning and managing occupancies on the route network, but also enables the recording and monitoring of overhead line circuits and track closures, which significantly increases safety and efficiency.

Solution

Naviinfra replaces the previous Naviact and brings new extensions and functions. The tool records operations, obstructions and closures, route-related and offers all employees an overview in real time. The BERNMOBIL control center also receives a comprehensive overview of all current occupancies and operations. In the tool there is a filter function in the map and table view, which is adapted to the needs of the user. This not only provides a geographically and chronologically ordered overview of the occupancies, but also allows new occupancies to be created directly from the map view at any position on the map.

A special innovation of Naviinfra is the possibility for external partners such as Energie Wasser Bern (ewb) to request assignments electronically. This advanced approach enables a fully automated handling of the administrative process, including application, execution, cancellation and billing of the circuits.

Technology and Development

Naviinfra was developed using Java and Spring Boot and runs in an Openshift environment. The user interface is based on React and the map integration was implemented with the JavaScript library Leaflet. The development of Naviinfra took almost one year.

User friendliness and flexibility

Naviinfra is characterized by a user-friendly interface that allows easy navigation and quick entry and editing of occupancies. The tool is accessible on both desktop and mobile devices, providing employees, flexibility and mobility.

Conclusion

The introduction of Naviinfra at BERNMOBIL has led to a significant improvement in construction site and event planning. Through the automation of processes, the comprehensive overview functions and the integration of overhead line circuits as well as track closures, Naviinfra offers an efficient and secure solution for the management of occupancies and closures. With its user-friendly design and flexibility in use on different devices, the tool greatly facilitates daily use for BERNMOBIL users.

The municipal transport company BERNMOBIL is an independent, autonomous public-law institution of the city of Bern and is fully owned by it. BERNMOBIL transports over 100 million passengers a year on its network of 5 streetcar lines, 3 trolley lines and 15 bus lines.
